Students in grades 6–8 have the opportunity to become active school leaders. In September, two students are elected in their homeroom to serve on the Student Council. At the first meeting, the president and executive board are selected by the advisors. Each month, the fourteen elected representatives meet to plan upcoming activities and events.
These students work hard to enrich the lives of the SMA community. Some of our social events include middle school dances and an ice cream social. We also raise money by selling candy grams for Valentine's Day and by having a walk-a-thon in the spring. More important is our community service commitment to the local community. We sponsor monthly "Casual for a Cause" days, a much-needed and appreciated Thanksgiving food drive, and weekly classroom recycling.
Part of the money we raise goes toward Student Council scholarships to eighth graders at graduation.
