Adopt-A-Cause and Buddy Programs
Building Fellowship Between Grade Levels and With the Community
Each year classrooms choose a worthwhile cause for the Adopt-A-Cause Program. Projects are developmentally appropriate for each grade level.
This year we are introducing a school wide Buddy Program. Grade levels are working together to implement one activity per semester. Adopt-A-Cause projects and Buddy projects are being integrated.
Following are the activities that have been chosen this year by grade level for both projects:
Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 year olds and Grade 5
- Fall Activity
- Students listened to a picture book about Owls and then completed an art activity.
- Students in Grade 5 created welcoming cards for their buddies in Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 year olds classrooms.
- Students in Grade 5 will be attending the Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 year olds’ Halloween Parade and participating in an art activity.
- Winter Activity
- Students in Grade 5 will read picture books to Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 year olds during snack time.
- Students in Grade 5 will complete a Thankful Booklet with their buddies in Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 year olds classrooms.
- Spring Activity
- Students in Grade 5 will read picture books to Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 year olds during snack time.
- Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 year olds and Grade 5 will participate in the St. JudeTrike-a-Thon.
Kindergarten and Grade 4
- Fall Activity
- Giving Thanks - Students will make turkeys with feathers with the theme what the children are thankful for.
- Winter Activity
- Troop Support – Students will collect items and write letters to soldiers overseas.
- Spring Activity
- Life Cycle of Sunflower and Bean Plants - Students will plant sunflowers and make a sunflower life cycle bracelet to review cycle.
Grades 1 and 8
- Fall Activity
- Students will decorate placemats and donate them to Meals on Wheels.


- Winter Activity
- Students will collect mittens for Lazarus House and make cards for soldiers in Afghanistan.

- Spring Activity
- Students will plant seeds and care for them until it is time to plant them in our school Butterfly Garden.
Grades 3 and 6
- Fall Activity
- Students will work together to investigate the differences between living and non-living things.
- Winter Activity
- Grade six will share their favorite story with the third grade. Together they will design and create a cover for the book.
- Spring Activity
- Students will work together on mini plays based on fables.
- Students will bring items necessary to restock the local food pantry.
Grades 2 and 7
- Fall Activity
- Students will write letters to Santa Clause on behalf of ill children; all monies raised will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
- Winter Activity
- Students will make St. Patrick’s Day placemats and donate them to the local senior center.
- Spring Activity
- Students will work cooperatively on authoring and illustrating books for our preschoolers.
- Specialists – Students in grades 4 - 8 will use their techniques and skills studied in their Art, Music, Spanish and Technology classes to bring joy to our seniors.
- Technology and Art - grades 4 and 5 will create Happy Spring cards to send to seniors at a local nursing home.
- Spanish and Music - grades 6- 7 students will make a video presentation of spring songs in both English and Spanish using IPad technology which will be sent to the nursing home.
